May Scholarship

This scholarship has been established to honor the legacy of John Milton and Sue May and their dedication to education in the Winterville community. As a tribute to the May’s commitment to community service and dedication to help others, the family offers this scholarship to a high school senior of the Winterville community planning to attend a four-year university. It is given to recognize outstanding academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, and commendable community service in Winterville.

Application Requirements
To be considered for the John Milton & Sue May Scholarship, applicants must submit a complete application package that includes the following materials:
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a 2026 graduating high school senior who resides in the Winterville community.
- Applicant must plan to attend a four-year college or university following graduation.
References (Confidential Submission Required)
- Two references are required. References may include teachers, school counselors, employers, coaches, or community leaders.
- Family members may not be used as references.
- Applicants must provide each reference with the official Reference Form PDF included in the application materials.
- References must submit their completed forms directly to the Chamber by email. These forms are confidential and should not be returned to the student.
Counselor Verification Form
- Applicants must print the Counselor Form included in the application materials.
- This form must be completed and signed by a school counselor.
- The completed form must be uploaded as part of the application submission.
Academic Information
- Provide your current cumulative GPA.
- Submit a copy of your high school transcript (official or unofficial, unless otherwise specified).
Standardized Test Scores
- Provide SAT and/or ACT scores.
Essay Submission
- Submit an essay responding to one of the approved essay prompts listed in the application.
- The essay must be uploaded as a document as part of the application submission.
Submission Deadline
All application materials must be submitted no later than the end of business on May 19, 2026.
Incomplete applications may not be considered.
Applications must be submitted using the jotform link provided, or by filling out the information using the PDF form and dropping it off in-person to the Town Operations Center (2936 Church Street, Ext.)
