Winterville Police Shop with a Cop

Winterville Police Shop with a Cop

For our December Initiative this year our board voted to team up with the Winterville Police Department for their Shop with a Cop Program. For those unfamiliar with this, the concept for the program is for underprivileged youth to have the opportunity to shop with a police officer leading up to Christmas. The expenses are covered by the program, and it assists the family in having a good Christmas. Since Covid, WPD has done things a little differently to help everyone stay safe. They team up with the parents to present them with a check for them to be able to shop with their children. The families are chosen with the help of many organizations that help the community. The Department chooses only families that live in Winterville.

Lieutenant Williams was in charge of the program this year, and he told us that the main need was for funds. They already have many businesses that assist by feeding the families that day, so the real challenge comes with having a whole list of names but only a limited amount of money you can spend. So we decided the best way we could help would be to raise money to be able to help more families! We reached out to our Chamber members, and they delivered! We raised $2425 for the Department this year, and both Chief Willhite and Lieutenant Williams expressed their deepest thanks for our assistance. They said it was an emotional day, being able to help so many. For a lot of these families Christmas may not have happened at all this year. Thanks to our wonderful Winterville Police Department, and the help of such a supportive community, we were able to make a difference for these families.

Thank you all for your support in making this possible!

2021 Thanksgiving Meal Initiative

2021 Thanksgiving Meal Initiative

On November 22nd, the Chamber executed our Thanksgiving Meal Initiative for the second year in a row. With the help of an incredible membership and an amazing community we were able to feed 82 families for Thanksgiving this year! Words can’t express how important this is to us, and how thankful we are for the help we received in making this possible. We purchased these meals from Publix, had a pie donated by Sam’s Club to go with every meal, and the Winterville Historical and Arts Society allowed us to use the Train Depot to set them all up and be ready for pick up.

This was an amazing day of the community coming together that was made possible because of our generous members and the community partners that assisted us in finding those that were in need this year; our area social workers: Kim and Tammy, Daughters of Worth, Building Hope, Center for Family Violence Prevention, and Julia’s Well. We appreciate you all!
