For more than two decades, Winterville Flower Shop has been a constant in downtown Winterville – and for many of us, it’s hard to imagine our community without it. Opened in 2000 and proudly rooted in the same location ever since, the shop has had a front-row seat to Winterville’s growth. From new businesses and homes to changing roads and familiar faces, Monica has watched the town evolve right outside her front door while remaining a steady presence within it.

Monica’s journey into floral design began early. At just 16, she started working with local florists before spending several years honing her craft in Ayden. When the time came to step out on her own, she knew she wanted to build a business that reflected both her passion and her experience. Winterville felt like the right fit – close to what she knew in Ayden and Greenville, without encroaching on the communities and mentors who shaped her. That decision, grounded in focus and respect for her craft, became the foundation of Winterville Flower Shop.

Over the years, that same mindset has guided how the business operates. Monica has never tried to be everything to everyone. Instead, she has stayed committed to doing what she loves and doing it well. That steady approach has allowed the shop to continually flourish while remaining deeply personal.

What truly sets Winterville Flower Shop apart is the role it plays in people’s lives. From weddings and baby showers to anniversaries, celebrations, and times of grief, Monica has been honored to be part of her customers’ most meaningful moments. Many are so familiar that they only need to call, say who they are, and trust her to know exactly what to send. Even in an increasingly online world, she prefers walk-in customers and phone orders – valuing the conversation, the connection, and the chance to serve each customer thoughtfully.

The heart of the shop extends beyond its flowers. Monica’s team – a group of self-proclaimed “misfits” – is made up of retired individuals who work part-time, enjoy one another, and bring a warm welcome that customers feel the moment they walk through the door. Outside the shop, Monica is deeply involved in her church community and initiatives like the Samaritan’s Purse shoebox program, further reflecting her commitment to service.

For many people in Winterville, there’s no question who to call when flowers are needed – and it’s just as hard to imagine Winterville without Winterville Flower Shop. After more than 25 years, it remains not just a business, but a familiar face, a trusted presence, and a true community staple.
