Thankful for Thanks*giving*

“Thankful” doesn’t quite capture what this year’s Thanksgiving initiative meant for Winterville. Every time we take on something like this, this community shows – yet again – just how deeply its roots run. Because of that shared strength, 67 families enjoyed full Thanksgiving meals this year.

This effort reached even further thanks to Off Road Realty and our growing partnership with Ripe for Revival. Each family received a mobile market voucher, giving them access to fresh produce for future meals – resources many may not have known were available right here in their own neighborhoods. That added layer of support extended the impact well past Thanksgiving Day, which is exactly what we hope for.

Local businesses, churches, and residents didn’t just show up – they showed up big. Between the financial support and the volunteer turnout, it truly felt like one of those moments where everyone knew their role and jumped in. We wrapped up in record time, and you could feel that shared joy long after the last box was packed.

We are especially grateful for the Pitt County Schools social workers who pour so much into making this happen year after year. Koinonia Community Solutions helped us reach even more families through their network. Sam’s Club made sure every meal came with a pie, and Lowes Foods made the meal prep seamless and delicious. These partners make a very real difference, and it’s important to say that out loud.

As we head into the holiday shopping season – and the barrage of online deals – it’s worth pausing to remember businesses like these. They sponsor our teams, organize drives, and help feed families when it matters most. Their ability to do that depends on us choosing to support them locally.

Winterville shows up for one another in powerful ways, and we’re grateful every single time.
