Chamber Champion Feature

In 2019 we are rolling out a new benefit for our chamber businesses! Every 2 weeks we will be randomly drawing a name from our list of businesses (excluding schools, organizations, churches, and individuals) to feature on our Facebook and website for the two weeks until our next drawing.

Greenville Choral Society

The Winterville Chamber of Commerce is so happy to announce our next Chamber Champion is The Greenville Choral Society! GCS is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to enrich our community with music education and quality entertainment. The GCS, consisting of more than 125 adult, youth, and child singers in four choirs, is the largest community-based performing arts organization in eastern North Carolina, and their concerts provide entertainment for a large cross-section of people and are well attended.
The 2019-2020 season runs from September 2019 – June 2020 and includes eight concerts. Highlights for the Concert Choir this season include their 50th Anniversary Concert, Handel’s Messiah in December, their Annual Gala, Gather ‘Round the Radio- featuring music from the 1940’s, and a concert in combination with other choral groups to premiere a unique work, Tuvahyun: Beatitudes of a Wounded World, by Kim Andre Arnesen in London.
This year GCS celebrates its 50th anniversary of making beautiful music. To commemorate the milestone, adult, youth, and children’s choirs will come together to perform a special 50th Anniversary Concert, on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Greenville’s Oakmont Baptist Church at 2PM. Two former GCS directors, Dr. Paul Aliapoulios and Dr. Rhonda Fleming, will be guest conducting. Also, they have commissioned a new composition for combined choirs, Everyone Sang, by ECU School of Music alumnus, Anthony Maglione. A reception will follow the concert in the church fellowship hall. The concert will be free, but donations will be gratefully received.
The Greenville Choral Society has three fantastic conductors: Paul Flowers – Children’s Chorus (Grades 4-8), Luke Hancock – Youth Chorale (Grades 9-12), and Dr. Andrew Roby – Concert Choir (Ages 18 and up). It is not too late to audition for one of the choirs! Audition times for all choirs can be scheduled on their website. If there is not an active sign up sheet for the choir that you are interested in joining, please contact the GCS General Manager, Paula Mitra, at GCS would love to have you join them!
Please visit for up-to-date information on how to join, how to make a contribution, view their concert schedule, and other important news. You can also see some of their performances here:
The Greenville Choral Society is a great addition to our community and we are so thankful to have them as a part of the Winterville Chamber.
